WVU announced today that Rob Alsop will be stepping down as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives as the university moves to restructure that department effective November 18.

Alsop and Strategic Initiatives have been at the forefront of WVU’s “academic transformation” process that has resulted in plans to shutter dozens of majors and eliminate 143 faculty positions (including 69 RIFs following 74 voluntary retirements or resignations).

Throughout the university’s restructuring process, faculty have repeatedly called on the administration to restructure administrative as well as academic units. One anonymous post itemized what its authors considered “Administrative bloat.”

WVU’s announcement included no further details about the reorganization of Strategic Initiatives.

Alsop will serve as special advisor to the president through January 31, 2024.
