Day 95: Now Not Reading …

If there’s one thing I regret about my schedule during the semester, it’s the limited amount of time I have to read for pleasure.

But at least I can window-shop … Here are some books that I’m currently not reading but wish I were:

T.J. Stiles, The First Tycoon — biography of Cornelius Vanderbilt

Robert Caro, The Power Broker, vol. 1 — biography of Robert Moses and study of power in politics

David Grann, Killers of the Flower Moon — about the murders of Osage women in the 1920s and the birth of the FBI

David Grann, The Wager — a story of castaways, mutineers, court martial, and mystery in 1742

Steven King, On Writing — umm, Steven King on writing

Mary Doria Russell, Children of God — historical novel set in the future and follow-up to one of my all-time favorites, The Sparrow

Jane Egan, Manhattan Beach — historical novel about a woman who becomes diver at the Brooklyn Naval Yard during World War II and uncovers mysteries behind her father’s disappearance, by one of my favorite novelists

Ned Blackhawk, Violence over the Land — study of the Ute, Paiute, and Shoshone Indians during imperial expansion of the American West and how these groups responded and were reshaped

Addison Armstrong, The War Librarian —historical novel inspired by the first female volunteer librarians and the first wome in the U.S. Naval Academy during WWI (just saw it on Libby and it seemed like my kind of thing)

Michelle Obama, Becoming — surely you’re familiar with this one

Indra Nooyi, My Life in Full — memoir by former CEO of PepsiCo

Scott Jurek and Jenny Jurek, North — about the ultramarathoners quest to break the speed record for the Appalachian Trail (because if I don’t have time to run much right now I can at least live vicariously)

Sridhar Pappu, The Year of the Pitcher — about Bob Gibson, Denny McLain, and the 1968 baseball season (because the Cubs are now playing golf and opening day is 177 days away)
