Day 45: (Dis)orientation

WVU Weekly, the e-newsletter from University Relations, opens today with a picture of two students sharing a smile and a high five. The Article, headed “Welcome sight,” talks about Welcome Week activities like FallFest and FoodFest tomorrow night and the first day of classes on Wednesday.

Scrolling down, the next story, headed “Next Steps,” identifies August 18 as the deadline for chairs or faculty to file notice of their intent to appeal the university’s Preliminary Recommendations for “Academic Transformation.” Those recommendations include closing the entire Department of World Languages and Literatures and laying off 169 faculty members. According to Forbes, the cuts will extend to nearly 10% of college majors and 7% of faculty.
