Day 319: The Renaissance Burger
On the way home from Asheville, Gary and I stopped at the legendary Secret Sandwich Society in Fayetteville, WV. In a granola town like Fayetteville I figured I’d find at least one decent vegan item on the menu.
That turned out to be an all-vegan cheeseburger called the Renaissance. I know from my own kitchen experiments that vegan cuisine has improved dramatically since I last tried to adhere to it a decade ago. I ordered the Renaissance.
O.M.G...... This is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! It tasted like a Big Mac except actually satisfying. I wouldn't call any processed food "health food," but if you're looking for an artery-friendly or cruelty-free road meal, this can't be beat!
I was so in heaven that I didn’t think to take a picture of it — but you can see one on Secret Sandwich Society’s Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/secret_sandwich_society/p/CLwsKvKjnAf/
I have a long history with trying, and eventually failing, to follow a plant-based diet. I’ll write more about that some other time, plus how I ended up leaning that direction again and what’s different this time (a lot).
For now, I'm just going to start looking for even more excuses to go to Fayetteville .... :-p
