Day 251: SPRING BREAK!

As I ran by the high school this morning, I noticed the first cherry tree in blossom. Photo by Arno Smit on Unsplash

I just taught my last class of the week (about how to analyze the immigration consequences of criminal convictions) and wished the students an enjoyable Spring Break.

Before I started teaching, I pledged to always take a vacation during Spring Break. In fourteen years, I've kept that promise exactly zero times.

Usually I spend the week grading midterms, supervising student clinical work, revising article drafts, or traveling for research. Things slow down over the summer, but in spring I’m always mid-sprint and disinclined to break my stride.

This year, I’ll enjoy the extra time to stay in and focus on drafting a book chapter about one man’s emigration journey from southwest Germany in the mid-eighteenth century. I’ll also review and approve final drafts of several documents that Immigration Clinic students are preparing to file with the Immigration Courts or USCIS. Maybe I’ll even be able to run in the daylight a couple of times.

To be honest, this is my idea of a good time. (I know, call me a hedonist.)

Happy Spring Break!
