Day 175: Another Departure

I learned today of another colleague who will leave WVU College of Law. I won’t mention any names, as I don’t know who knows. I probably don’t know of all of the intended departures myself yet.

As part of the “Academic Transformation,” the administration required us to reduce the size of the law faculty by five. From the looks of things, it will drop by much more than that. Those who leave will be respected teachers, productive scholars, and valued colleagues.

Perhaps some of these departing colleagues would have left anyway. No doubt all of them have many attractive opportunities. But I can’t imagine that the upside down-ness of the university didn’t affect their thinking.
